In awe of The Wichita Mountains...

Visiting the Wichitas was such an enriching experience...As you can see from the above pic which was taken at the mountain peak, the view there is absolutely breathtaking...Neva in my entire life have I seen such awesome scenery...

The Wichitas has its own wildlife refuge as well. Cute Prairie dogs burying holes, bisons, deers and elks grazing in open plains...birds and insects chirping....there was juz so much to see...If I could I would really like to return to this place again for a camping trip to experience and discover more wonders of this beautiful place.

It jz makes me realise how minute humans are in these vast terrains of nature...how foolish we are to be so caught up in our mundane daily struggles when nature has incurred much greater losses due to Man's activities for our selfish motives as we gradually erode its artistry and grace away... =(

The beauty of nature is not subjected to the eyes of the beholder...
To all who has laid eyes and witnessed the greatness of it, its beauty is timeless...

Merry Xmas,
Nature Convert

Kelly the Environmentalist~

Environmental Science is the topic of my module this week and it has once again roused da "nature lover" in me which made me study geography back in sec sch. I really like studyin bout our Mother Earth actually cos its really amazing to learn bout how the ecosystem works, why volcanoes erupt, how energy is harnessed etc.

We've touched on corals, fossils, trees, water this week and I actually got to observe some real fossils in school. The above pic was taken on Tues at West Elm Creek which is a stream my school has adopted to do water quality checks. The view there is beautiful with da snow falling and water running. There are dams built by beavers and fishes swimming about....it jz makes me feel so in touch with nature.

The stream runs juz below a road so we jz had to climb over the railing onto the rocks to access the stream where we collected data and samples of the stream water back to school for water quality evaluation...and we did all tis in the snow...after which all of us engaged in a snow fight on the wide road and emerged wet n laughing..it was so fun dat even our lecturer joined in!

Did I mention that Oklahoma is an agricultural state? Everyday on the bus as I pass by houses, many of them have their own farms. I've seen horses running freely and even rabbits hoping around in my hotel! There's a good deal of wild dogs, cows and deers too when I was at the Creek. The only bad thing bout snow is that its freezing cold and the ground is slippery...I've slipped quite a few times oredi >.<

I'll be headin to Mount Witchia in the morning tomoro to experience more wonders of Mother Nature...Heez >.<

Signin off,
The Au Naturale Lian =P

Let it Snow Let it Snow Let it Snow~

Yippie~ For da first time in my life, I saw snow falling right in front of my eyes and its such a wonderful(not to mention freezing) experience! Snow landing on my coat, my shoes, my glasses, da road, da cars, da window panes...it felt a lil magical to c da snow land on my gloved hands in fact. I jz wish I could share tis beautiful sight with my loved one(s)....

Everythin was juz white...it almost looked like Wonderland....my classmates had fun engaging in a mini snow fight as we were all so excited over seeing the snow falling on our noses....all our noses turned red like Rudolph and "smoke" was comin outta our mouth...Heez~

Guess I wun have to juz dream of a white christmas this year... =)

Feeling Snowy,
Spunky Lian

1 min to air...30 secs...15 secs...10,9,8,7,6,5....Roll Record!

Yupz dats me in the control room of my sch's studio where we did our TV production module which was really interesting. It was super shiong but I really learnt alot as I tried out all da
different TV crew roles such as talent, director, cameraman, floor manager, audio, VTR ,graphics, technical director and assistant director.

We also went to the Oklahoman (Oklahoma's news publishing house) where I saw how newspapers were printed. Their office building is super cool with a personal gym, carpark and a lounge area. The view from their reporter's office overlooks the suburban and their own garden with a lake and its on da 17th floor which makes da view really breathtaking.
Their warehouse is HUGE with hundreds of rolls of paper all stacked up,each roll of paper is bout 2m tall weighing more than 50kg,which means one roll of them is enough to squash us to death. Their ink factory is giantic as well, each ink tub is almost a quarter of an adult size swimming pool, only much deeper to the extent dat one could drown in them.

Going to Oklahoma's Channel 5 TV station was quite an experience as well. I got to watch how a live newscast was run with all the TV monitors and cameras which kinda 'wowed' me. Learning how much it takes to run a show well really made me impressed with all the crew involved in producing it. The newscasters and production crew were so experienced and professional as they shared their knowledge with us all. Of cos I took lotsa pics which I will soon try to upload to a flickr account.

Lotsa other interesting stuff has also happened this past week. 40 of us here living together really 'reveals da true colours' (which we neva knew) of some people and 'interesting stories' started flying around. Of cos we all partied hard together as well...heez~ I shall try to share more details da next time.

I really really miz home actually though Im enjoying myself here with my frenz...but anyway im 1/5 on my way to home oredi...

Missing all in SG,

LiAn wIf da Spunk

Life in America- Oklahoma City

Yes~ Im finally in Oklahoma City n yupz~Dats a pic of me on campus in Oklahoma City Uni =D

Cant believe I actually survived da 28hr flight...da international flights werent da bad actually though it was 7hrs cos there was entertainment on the plane. So long no sit aeroplane liao, nowadays da plane very up, gt mini tv screen for each passenger n a wide variety of movies, games n music to choose from, is use remote contr sumre wor! I so suaku...1st time see such things n I was so impressed~ Da airline food wasnt too bad as well...its really da domestic flights dats hard to bear. Even though da flight is only 3hrs, the plane is much smaller and there's no entertainment at all...I din manage to sleep well during flight due to da constrained space...kept endin up with muscle aches n cramps...

Its been 4days since I arrived here and so far everythin's pretty good. Im enjoying my stay with my bunkmates (4 other girls) n we all get along well...lotsa laughter n fun with all our silly antics n crappy jokes...they're a wonderful bunch of girls~

The hse we stay in is pretty big and room service + breakfast is provided on a daily basis. Chartered buses take us to school n nearby places so everythin's still convenient. The weather is COLD~ it snowed last week b4 I arrived! I hope it snows again...I'd love to experience snow for da 1st time here! So far da lowest temp here is -3 degress...first time I talk got 'smoke' come out of my mouth! Haha~

I've done some shopping here already...Heez~ Best buy so far is an Espirit belt for less than $10SGD...alot of the branded stuff in SG is really cheap here e.g Guess n Kenneth Cole watches r less than $20SGD!! We'll b gg to Dallas tis weekend so more shopping to come! Yay~
We did our groceries at Walmart (its like Carrefour) as we're cooking...Im startin to get sick of the food here oredi...its too salty/oily/starchy...bleah~ Oh oh da best thing here is that Ben n Jerry's only cost $4.35SGD here!!! n they have so much more variety here...hee~ Im almost finishin one pint oredi....

Today was my first day in sch...campus is HUGE~ n its nicely decorated for Xmas =D Class was really fun today as we had a hands-on experience at our sch studio (tv production set), got to try out da camera equipment and da stuff in the control room.

I kinda miss home, all my peeps, my hamster XiaoB n of cos my Loved ones...hope all is well for u guys in SG...do take lotsa care ya...I'll try to get souvenirs for everyone =)

Anyway, my sch schedule is quite packed n its looks like I'll b kept bz for sometime...so please pardon the slow update of my blog ya...In da meantime, I'll b takin lotsa pics to share with u people when I get back. >.<

All da way from US,

My Fetish for Ben & Jerry's ^_^

Ok...most of my close frenz should probably know by now that Im a HUGE fan of Ben & Jerry's icecream n I really mean HUUUUGEE! I totally went nuts over it when I first tried its New York Super Fudge Chunk (Da one in da pic + Cookies n Creme) in JC2 and its still my top favourite. But generally, Im in love with all their ice cream regardless of their flavours cos they all taste great! It neva fails to perk me up when im down...well at least for 95% of the time.

Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream is the epitome of ice cream and what ice cream should be all about, well, at least in my point of view. Its da kinda ice cream that brings about a sense of euphoria as its richness melts on your tongue and I juz go like "Mmmmmm..."~~ Almost every single spoonful contains a bite-size of the flavour filling. I'd lick the pint/cup/spoon totally clean so as to savour every bit of that heavenly dessert. Its so deliciously scrumptious that I can finish a whole pint by myself in 30mins while watching TV/reading!
I usually try to eat it as slowly as I can...bit by bit...a few spoonfuls a day...
It makes me go "Ooh..Ah~" and lick my lips knowing that there's a Ben & Jerry's icecream sitting in my freezer awaiting my tastebuds...unfortunately the temptation is too great for me to resist and my icecream neva lasts for more than 4days...

PS:I can get pretty sensitive bout my Ben & Jerry's though which is why I seldom share it...so if I do share it with you, its a real privilege! *Winks*

Its ice cream dats fun, you see...all the flavours have such cute names like Chunky Monkey (Banana icecream), Phish Food(Choc icecream w Marshmallows and choc fudge fish), Chubby Hubby, The Gobfather, Half Baked Body & Soul instead of the usual boring chocolate, vanilla, strawberry etc. I mean how do you not get intrigued with such names? They juz trigger off your curiosity and inquisitiveness makin you wonder, "How does it taste like exactly?"
Their packaging is cool as well with all the colouful graphics/illustrations and enticing fonts. In fact, I like them so much that I collect their containers to keep my cosmetics and jewellery! A gr8 way to put my favourite things 2gether...Keke~

Basically they have 5types of icecream: Organic, Original, Body & Soul, Low Fat Frozen Yoghurt and Frozen Yoghurt. The diff in them lies in the nutritional value but not all the flavours are available in 5diff types due to the ingredients and manufacturing process. But dun worry, you won't be shortchanged taste-wise.
Their icecream are made the wholesome and natural way (juz like me~ =D) as they promote business practices that respect the Earth and the Environment. If you do eva read behind their pint, there's a memo stating that the milk they use are from untreated cows.
Ben & Jerry's is also a company that is eco and social friendly. They participate actively in programs promoting environmental friendliness to protect the Earth. They have also been supporting small scale farming for the past 20years as they get their milk from Vermont. They are involved in peace programs as well.
For more details, do log on to their website at www.benjerry.com

I really like such companies that promote saving the Earth as I do believe that Mankind has over-exhausted our natural resources and are killing our home. Im pro-environmental and I make it a point to recycle/reuse my stuff wheneva possible, which is why Im oso a BodyShop member. Ben & Jerry's promote peace and support sustainable farming practices as well, juz like how BodyShop is involved in Community Trade. These big companies are empowered to take active steps in these movements. So while enjoying my ice cream, I know that Im paying money for a good cause which contributes to me being happy as well.

Ben & Jerry's started in Singapore in 1999 but only started gaining popularity recently. As far as I know, they only have 4scoop shops locally, 2 in Mandai, 1 @Suntec and 1 @Sentosa (where I juz had mine on Tues Heez~). The flavours in SG is limited though...only certain supermarkets and petrol stations sell it. Thankfully, the Shell station nearby my place has it. And Im gg to the States to enjoy more of it soon and hopefully try out ALL the flavors not available in SG! N I'll definitely bring the containers back no matter what...

My Ben & Jerry's short term goal: To taste all of their flavours and collect all the containers.
My Ben & Jerry's long term goal: To become their spokesperson one day and enjoy a lifetime supply of free Ben & Jerry's icecream!

Jialat...Bloggin bout tis makes me crave for Ben & Jerry's now...any willing sponsors? >.<
